I happened to be watching a Rick Steves show on Denmark and in the show they were describing a way of living that they had. It was called hyggelig (hoo.gl.ee). This hyggelig meant you always have a drink, some food, and at the very least a candle between you and your company. It meant feeling cozy at the very base translation of the word but actually much more, it was your surroundings without anything that would make you feel ill at ease or emotionally overwhelmed. It was actually the pursuit of serenity, of comfy, of homey, of anything that brought that warm fuzzy to your soul.

My jaw dropped at this Danish discovery of self. That one single word summed up the pursuit of my entire life. Hyggelig!!! This blog is about just that, all the things that make me feel hyggelig. My only hope is that they inspire you to find your own hyggelig too. Imagine a world full of hyggelig, just imagine...

It's All Lux

Everyday a new slew of fashion shows come out and everyday I look at every single thing that comes down the runway. We aren't over with the fall 2011 ready to wear shows yet, there are still lots more to come. Although, I don't need another show to see that this fall is about luxury. Sure I've spotted some fun trends I'll be posting about but the most overwhelming theme in just about every show has been fur, leather, gorgeousness, and lux to the max.

This isn't Hollywood glam so don't get confused here. It's not about the "it" bag or the "it" anything. This is about WOMAN and the woman is sophisticated. She knows exactly what she wants and its not to show off to all her friends the latest trendy nonsense. The woman of fall 2011 is a powerful suggestion to us all about turning a blind eye on what is politically correct. She doesn't care what you think. She is done with that. This time it's all for herself and as I applaud this monumental turn I'm also thinking as a woman it's about time!

Lux...

Norma Kamali

Christian Dior

Chris Benz

Junya Watanabe

Trussardi 1911

Loewe

Just Cavalli

I feel like we are finally realizing that we can be powerful, even a feminist if you like, but we don't have to prove it anymore through our wardrobe. I keep thinking of that Cake song short skirt/long jacket. It's the perfect soundtrack to the season.

Be powerful, be gorgeous, be lux, be anything you want to be but always WOMAN.
